And the story unfolds as tragedy occurs at Bliss house along with strange and unnatural happenings. Nothing is as it seems, and dark secrets are slowly revealed. Charlotte becomes very restless and tortured with grief and guilt as she searches for answers. The author certainly has a vivid imagination with all the strange occurrences. I thought the ending was just outstanding, with a resolution I did not see coming. It was a compelling tale of suspense that was haunting and rich with description.
All of the characters do intertwine and are important to the story-line. Finally the author picked up the tempo and intensity and I became fully engaged. This is certainly a worthwhile read! I waffled between a 3 and 4 and decided on 3. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I was eagerly awaiting this prequel to Bliss House.
I love a good "house" story. When I discovered that this delved deeper into the earlier residents of Bliss House, I loved the idea and having just finished it I discovered that there is another prequel coming next year as well. What a fascinating idea to tell the story of a particular house, its biography, backwards while never losing sight of what happened most recently. Again I had strong emotional reactions to almost all of the characters. Those feeling might change as the story unfolded, but they were strong emotions nonetheless.
Although it would never do the house justice, I would love to see photographs of Bliss House one day or even the inspiration for Bliss House. You did it again! I've read a number of Laura Benedict's books, but this is one of my favorites.
I have to admit I liked it even more than "Bliss House," mostly because of Charlotte herself. I had a hard time putting the book down because I wanted to know what Charlotte would find out about the house, about her husband, and about things I can't mention without spoiling the plot.
This book does have graphic content in it, fair warning, but those parts are used in ways that make sense for the plot and character development. I enjoyed this book and look forward to Benedict's next book. This isn't a mystery! I wouldn't have bought if I knew what it was. Threw it in the trash when I finished it. One person found this helpful. I totally loved it and cannot wait for the next Bliss House book to come out.

Charlotte needed support from two nurses for all her care needs and had lost a great deal of weight. Charlotte was bedbound and suffering from pressure sores that required her to be turned in bed regularly. Within a few months she could bear her own weight and walk around. Charlotte is now able to visit the bathroom independently and enjoys weekly visits to the hairdresser. She has begun to put weight back on and now takes an active interest in everyday life at Garth House; from what she is going to wear in the morning, to what activities are planned in the home throughout the day.
